Mission Statement
The people I met in my years in Kenya as a development worker inspired me to start this project.
I personally know all of the recipients and their families, how much they care but how much they struggle. This fund pays for school fees and some basic living expenses. I know where the money needs to go and I see the results. The intelligence and hard work of these young people is apparent in their grades and their enthusiasm. With an education, each student has the opportunity to start a career that could earn enough to support their entire family. This raises standards of livings, improves the health of all involved, and creates community stability.
While many charities do good work in Africa, some spend money on operating overhead or on handouts that do not produce self-sufficiency. At the Bungoma Project, 0% of the monies collected go to administrative costs. Each young Kenyan is being empowered with an investment in their future.
Cheers,
Mary Hanlon
